Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • NB!   • Before submitting a manuscript, please consult carefully submission guidelines and reference examples! 
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file (without formatting!) is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); all tables are presented on separate pages and/or in separate files outside the main text; all illustrations and figures are submitted in separate files.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

Author Guidelines

FCE welcomes papers on biodiversity, taxonomy and ecology of fungi, lichens, bryophytes, and algae from contributors anywhere in the world. Submitted manuscripts must not be published before and not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts should be in English.

The journal does not charge APCs or submission charges. Before submitting a manuscript, PLEASE CONSULT CAREFULLY submission guidelines and reference examples!

Text

This must be double-spaced, not styled, without underlines, tabs and bold. Scientific names should be in italics. Use Times New Roman 12 pt for the text. Consult the latest issues of FCE for guidance on format, organisation, and references. The manuscripts should not exceed 20 pages.

References should be listed in alphabetical order according to the last name of the first author.

Cite references in the text by name and year in parentheses. Some examples:

The taxon is monophyletic according to the analyses of ITS dataset (Gaya et al., 2011; Vondrák et al., 2018).
To ascertain determinations, the most similar sequences were downloaded, aligned using MUSCLE (Edgar, 2004) and clustered using PhyML (Guindon et al., 2010) in SeaView ver. 4.7. (Gouy et al., 2010).
Lichen substances were identified by thin layer chromatography (in solvents A, B and C) in the Laboratory of Lichenology and Bryology of Komarov Botanical Institute of RAS according to the methods of Orange et al. (2001).

Tables 

Tables must be self-explanatory and provided with a full title. Each table should be presented on the separate page outside the main text.

Figures

All drawings, diagrams, graphs and photos are considered as Figures. Line drawings and photographs of microstructures must be provided with a scale bar. Each figure should be submitted in a separate file (pdf, jpg, tif or eps files are accepted). Printed figures are usually black-and-white; still, colour images can be published in the electronic version of FCE. Scale bars must be inserted within the photographs/images if magnification was used. Scale bars must correspond to the magnification used in that figures.
