About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The purpose of Studia Humaniora Tartuensia (SHT) is to publish scholarly papers and notes embodying original research in all areas of the humanities, but especially classical studies and ancient history, Neo-Latin studies, classical tradition, history of scholarship and philosophy. We encourage interdisciplinary contributions and submissions that use new approaches to elucidate their topic. Detailed treatments of specific themes are also welcome. We also publish book notices and reviews.

Peer Review Process

All submissions are welcome and will be carefully considered. The editors reserve the right to reject a paper, send it back for correction/revision, or ask the opinion of an anonymous reader active in the given field of study. As a rule, manuscripts are sent to at least two anonymous reviewers. Thus, the submitted paper should be prepared accordingly, with references to the author's own work treated in the same way as references to the work of others. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all citations, which should be verified before manuscripts are submitted.

Publication Frequency

Individual items are published as soon as they are ready, by adding them to the "current" volume's Table of Contents.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The editors evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

The editors never disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

The authors should ensure that if they have used the work and/or words of others, this has been appropriately cited or quoted. An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and not acceptable.
