About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Studia Metrica et Poetica is a biannual peer-reviewed journal of prosody and poetics. The main aim of the journal is to publish papers devoted to the comparative-historical and typological issues, but various questions of verbal art and descriptions of the individual creation of different authors are addressed as well.

The thematic range of the journal includes different language families and a wide variety of schools. Therefore, especially welcome are the contributions on non-European and non-Indo-European traditions. As regards the methods, the only restriction is that they have to meet the requirements of scholarly research, that is, the results should be verifiable. The studies of single poems are not favoured, although these are not completely excluded, when a paper is devoted to an important question or a significant text.

One volume in two fascicles is published each year.

Studia Metrica et Poetica is indexed in Web of Science Core Collection (Clarivate Analytics) and in Scopus.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts are read by the editorial staff. Manuscripts judged to be of potential interest to our readership are sent for formal anonymous peer-review, typically to two reviewers. Acceptance is based on originality, scholarly excellence, and topical balance of the journal.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All papers are published under CC BY-NC-ND licence.

Authors retain copyright without restrictions.

This journal does not have article processing or submission charges.

Journal History

The journal continues the traditions of the University of Tartu Press in publishing important poetological works. In 1976 „Studia Metrica et Poetica“, a special series devoted to versification was launched, headed by Editor-in-Chief Jaak Põldmäe. The series continued to appear after the death of the Editor-in-Chief until 1990.
