In 2024, archaeological research was conducted in Tallinn on Kaarli Avenue due to the renovation of water, sewerage, and rainwater pipes in the area of the former St Barbara Cemetery, during which the skeletal remains of over 200 individuals were unearthed. During the new fieldwork, burials were documented in three of the sixteen trenches, with a total of nine mass graves and 25 individual graves identified. The oldest burials are believed to date from the 14th century, with the later ones from the 18th century.
