About the Journal
Scope
The Juridica International is a peer-reviewed open access law journal published by the School of Law at the University of Tartu and Iuridicum Foundation. The journal publishes original scientific articles on all fields of law. The focus of the journal is on legal developments in Estonia, the Baltic Sea region, and Europe, or Western legal culture in a wider sense, including comparative and international law studies. Authors are also encouraged to submit case analyses and commentaries on new laws and current law reform proposals, book reviews, and conference reviews. The journal is targeted at the widest audience of those interested in the law−whether as practitioners, students, teachers, judges, or administrators.
The language of the journal is English.
The yearly deadline for submitting articles is 1 April.
Juridica International is indexed with and included in DOAJ, HeinOnline, IFLP, vLex and other relevant databases.
Peer Review Process
All scientific articles will be peer-reviewed. The journal uses blind review process. Book reviews and other non-articles are reviewed internally by the editors.
Open Access Policy
Juridica International provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All papers are published under CC BY-NC-ND licence.
Authors retain copyright without restrictions.
This journal does not have article processing or submission charges.
Authors may deposit a copy of their paper in an institutional or other repository of their choice (either submitted version, accepted version (Author Accepted Manuscript) or published version (Version of Record), without embargo.
Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
The journal adheres to the following publication ethics and malpractice statement issued by the University of Tartu Press.
- Publication and authorship
- All submitted and not rejected articles are subject to strict peer-review process.
- The factors that are taken into account in review are relevance, soundness, significance, originality, readability, and language.
- The possible decisions include acceptance, acceptance with revisions or rejection.
- If authors are encouraged to revise and resubmit a submission after peer-review, there is no guarantee that the revised article will be accepted.
- Rejected articles will not be re-reviewed.
- Copyright infringement, plagiarism or presentation of fraudulent data are strictly forbidden.
- No same submissions can be published by another publisher without the allowance of Juridica International.
- All articles and, if applicable, also other submissions must include a list of references and a list of financial supporters (if any).
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy:
Authors must disclose the use and type of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) employed in their article in the introduction. AI may be used solely to enhance the article’s communicative effectiveness, such as refining grammar, language structure, and clarity. Any substantial or conceptual contributions generated by AI must be treated as third-party content and cited appropriately. Under no circumstances shall AI tools be credited as the co-authors. Authors bear full responsibility for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of content produced with AI assistance.
- Authors’ responsibilities
- Authors must certify that their submissions are their original work.
- Authors must certify that the submission has not previously been published elsewhere.
- Authors must certify that the submission is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere.
- Authors are obliged to participate in the peer-review process.
- Authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes.
- All authors must have significantly contributed to the research.
- Authors must state that all data in the paper are real and authentic.
- Authors must notify the Editors of any conflict of interest.
- Authors must identify all sources used in the creation of their manuscript.
- Reviewers’ responsibilities
- Reviewers should keep all the information concerning the submitted article confidential and treat it as privileged information.
- Reviews should be conducted objectively, with no personal criticism of the author.
- Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
- Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the author.
- Reviewers should also call to the Editors attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the submission under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
- Reviewers should not review submissions in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies or institutions connected to the papers.
- Editors’ responsibilities
- Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject or accept a submission.
- Editors should guarantee the quality of the publications and the integrity of the academic record.
- Editors should publish errata pages or make corrections when needed.
- Editors should base their decisions solely on the submissions’ importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to journal’s scope.
- Editors should neither reverse their decisions nor overturn the ones of previous editors without serious reason.
- Editors should preserve the anonymity of reviewers.
- Editors should ensure that all research materials they publish conform to internationally accepted ethical guidelines.
- Editors should act if they suspect misconduct, whether a submission is published or unpublished, and make all reasonable attempts to persist in obtaining a resolution to the problem.
- Editors should not allow any conflict of interest between staff, authors, reviewers, and board members.

Journal History
Juridica International has been published since 1996 at the Law Faculty of Tartu University as an international peer-reviewed law journal. Since January 2002, our readers have had the opportunity to access the online version.
According to the user statistics, most of the views come from the USA, the UK, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Australia, Belgium, and France.
