Astrological Motifs in Giordano Bruno’s Mnemotechnical Works and Italian Dialogues

The paper sheds light on the presence of zodiacal iconography and astrological themes in Giordano Bruno’s mnemotechnical works and Italian dialogues. As the analysis suggests, Bruno reinterpreted astrological symbolisms for his own argumentative purposes and adopted them in relation to diverse discourses (mainly regarding the art of memory, epistemology, ethics, philosophy of nature, and cosmology). While Bruno incorporated visual and conceptual elements of astrology in his works, he refused the deterministic view embraced by the astrologers of his time and rejected their representation of the world based on the Ptolemaic system. This critique plays a role in the development of his innovative cosmological model based on the concept of infinity.
