Call for papers
Submissions are invited for a special issue of the Estonian Journal of Education (Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakiri), Vol. 15, No. 2, which is scheduled to be published in November 2027. The journal welcomes high-quality research papers on new opportunities in preschool and primary school education. The editors of the special issue are Inge Timoštšuk, Professor of Primary Education from Tallinn University, Krista Uibu, Professor of Primary Education from the University of Tartu, and Maire Tuul, Associate Professor of Pre-school Education from Tallinn University.
The authors are expected to submit high-level scientific articles on topics related to early childhood education, primary, and preschool education. The focus is on the rapid changes shaping education and their impacts. More specifically, we invite articles within, but not limited to, the following topics:
Topics related to early childhood education and primary and preschool education. The focus is on the rapid changes shaping education, and their impacts. Preferred topics include the following:
- supporting children’s development and learning;
- children’s well-being and mental health;
- multilingualism and cultural diversity;
- involving families and the community;
- designing diverse learning environments;
- etc.
The submission presented should not have been submitted earlier, nor should it be submitted concurrently for publication in any other journal. The volume of the contribution is 40,000–60,000 characters with spaces, plus a summary in English (6000-9000 characters with spaces). The manuscript should be finalised in correct Estonian, in accordance with the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). The manuscripts will be evaluated anonymously by at least two reviewers.
The deadlines for the publication are as follows:
- The author(s) will send the topic of the article(s), accompanied by the abstract in Estonian, to Inge Timoštšuk (inge.timostsuk@tlu.ee). The abstract of no more than 200 words should summarise the theory of the research, the objective(s), the methodology, as well as the (expected) outcomes of the study on 23 September 2026.
- The editors will send confirmation of acceptance of the manuscripts to the corresponding authors by 12 October 2026.
- The authors will submit properly formatted manuscripts, including an English summary by 18 January 2027.
- The editors will inform the authors about the review results on 8 March 2027.
- The authors will revise the manuscripts suggested by the reviewers by 5 April 2027.
- Second revision of the manuscripts by the authors (if necessary) – 24 May 2027.
- Editors inform authors of revised manuscript acceptance, or whether a second revision is required based on additional guidelines – 3 May 2027.
- Authors submit second revised manuscripts – 24 May 2027.
- Language editing of manuscripts – May–June and August 2027.
- Lay-out of the journal at University of Tartu Press – end of October 2027.
- Publication of journal – 1 November 2027.
The Estonian Journal of Education is an international, peer-reviewed journal. The journal uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) and is published, in collaboration with the University of Tartu and Tallinn University, by the University of Tartu Press. The journal is indexed in the database EBSCO Academic Search Complete and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
