Call for papers
We are inviting submissions for a special issue of the Estonian Journal of Education (Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakiri), Vol. 15, No. 1, on various fields of art education. The editors of the special issue are Professor of Music Pedagogy Kristi Kiilu (Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), Associate Professor of Higher Education Teaching Mari Karm (University of Tartu), the Rector of Pallas University of Applied Sciences, and Junior Lecturer in Art Education Methodology Piret Viirpalu, PhD (Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu). This special issue is scheduled forpublication in May 2027.
We expect empirical and theoretical submissions across all fields of creative disciplines and at all levels and types of education (general, higher, adult, vocational, and recreational education, as well as special education). The preferred topics and subtopics are as follows:
- music education as a field of creative and cultural self-expression and learning;
- arts education as a field of visual, audiovisual, spatial, and cultural learning;
- the professionalism of teachers and faculty in creative disciplines;
- curriculum development in creative disciplines;
- integration of the arts and STEAM education;
- assessment in various fields of arts education.
The submission presented should not have been submitted earlier, nor should it be submitted concurrently for publication in any other journal. The volume of the contribution is 40,000–60,000 characters with spaces, plus a summary in English (6000-9000 characters with spaces). The manuscript should be finalised in correct Estonian, and according to the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). The manuscripts will be evaluated anonymously by at least two reviewers.
The publication deadlines are as follows.
- The author(s) will send the topic of the article(s), accompanied by the abstract in Estonian, to Kristi Kiilu (kristi.kiilu@eamt.ee). The abstract of no more than 200 words should summarise the theory of research, the objective(s), the methodology, as well as the (expected) outcomes of the study – 24 April 2026.
- The editors will send confirmation about the acceptance of the manuscripts to the corresponding authors on 6 May 2026.
- The authors will submit properly formatted manuscripts with a summary in English by 21 September 2026.
- The editors will inform the authors about the review results on 2 November 2026.
- The authors will revise the manuscripts suggested by the reviewers by 7 December 2026.
- Second revision of the manuscripts by the authors (if necessary) – 11 January 2027.
- Language editing of the manuscripts – 15 January – 5 March 2027.
- Lay-out of the journal at University of Tartu Press – March – April 2027.
- Date of final publication – 1 May 2027.
Estonian Journal of Education is an international, peer-reviewed journal. It is interdisciplinary and aims to foster critical discussion and debate across subject areas by involving all those who share a commitment to education. The journal uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) and will be published in collaboration with the University of Tartu and Tallinn University by the University of Tartu Press twice a year. The journal is indexed in the database Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), EBSCO Academic Search Complete, and Google Scholar.
